DHL, FedEx, UPS shipping cost increase despite impressive year.

This pandemic era has seen international transportation availability scarce, and even though the demand for delivery as increased significantly, Price per Kg isn’t going down.

Shipping companies managed to thrive during those year, as the market law always prevail, high demand, low offer = opportunity.

Active since 1 January 2022, DHL applied 5.9% increase for US shippers and 4.9% for account holders in ASIA, while the company announce a 50% increase in inbound volume in last Q3 and double the free cash flow in 2021.

Quoting CEO Frank Appel: “In a challenging year, we achieved the best performance in the company's history.”

the last measure from DHL, with a stellar acronym, ESS, sees to make sure all increase in cost during those difficult times is covered by the customer.

At least there will be a pandemic bonus of 200million euro for their employee worldwide for the hard work they had to provide to adapt to the situation.

How to adjust to this situation if the pandemic is not as profitable for your company as it is for Shipping companies?

One possibility would be to turn to local shipping company, which can be sustainable if you are not in a hurry, as their capacity might not be as extensive as those major actors in the market.

The Other would be to negotiate contracts so you may not have to bear the consequences of future increase in price.
